New York Officials Monitoring Reports of US Subway Terror Threats
Published at | Updated at(NEW YORK) — Officials are closely monitoring reports of terrorist threats against the U.S. subway system, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday.
“I want to assure the people of New York that we are monitoring these reports closely and are in close communication with officials in Washington,” Cuomo said in a statement.
The New York Police Department said they are working with the FBI to look into the matter.
“New York City normally operates at a heightened level of security and we adjust that posture daily based on our evaluation of information as we receive it,” the NYPD said in a statement.
Officials increased security in key areas of the city, as well as at mass transit sites as part of a safety plan in partnership with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
“Public safety is paramount, and we are doing everything necessary to protect New Yorkers,” Cuomo added.
