Published at(BEIJING) — The Chinese outfits worn by President Obama, Chinese President Xi Jinping and other heads of state at this year’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in Beijing are now available online and in Chinese stores.
Chinese e-commerce site Ali Express is selling 50-packs of the outfits — which have been likened to Hunger Games and Star Trek costumes — for $5,680, or $113.60 each. The package includes free shipping.
Another online retailer, Tao Bao, is selling individual suits from 248 yuan, or $40, to 398 yuan, or roughly $65.
According to the Beijing News, one shop owner said more than 20 orders for suits were made in the first half day.
One Chinese copyright expert that spoke with the Beijing News said the outfits may infringe on the original designers’ patent rights.
At each APEC summit, world leaders dress in traditional outfits selected by the host country, and pose for a group picture.
