Ebola: Testing the New Vaccines in Liberia
Published at(WASHINGTON) — Two experimental Ebola vaccines are being tested in Liberia this week in the first large-scale research trial to reach the beleaguered country since the epidemic began in 2014.
The trial, designed to enroll approximately 27,000 healthy men and women, is being led by the recently formed partnership between Liberian health officials and United States’ National Institutes of Health.
Volunteer participants are advised on how avoid infection, and will be contacted by the researchers one week after the injection, then monthly for the duration of the trial, which is expected to last twelve months.
