Hall of Famer Jerry Tarkanian Dies
Published at(LAS VEGAS) — Hall of Fame coach Jerry Tarkanian died on Wednesday. He was 84.
Tarkanian was fighting a respiratory ailment and infection after being hospitalized Monday, but couldn’t overcome it.
“Coach Tark, my father, the greatest man I have ever known, passed today, to take his place in heaven. I will miss him every day of my life,” his son, Danny, tweeted.
During his 19 seasons at UNLV, “Tark the Shark” as he was known won a NCAA national title in 1990 and led the 91′ team to the Final Four when they lost to Duke.
Tarkanian finished with a record of 729-201 and led the Fresno State Bulldogs to the NCAA tournament twice during his time there.
