Big Ben had going into the final year of his eight-year contract he signed back in 2008.

Roethlisberger was drafted 11th overall back in 2004 and since then, he’s been among the best quarterbacks in the NFL. He’s taken the Steelers to three Super Bowls, winning two of them during his career in the Steel City.

In 2014, Roethlisberger arguably had the best season his career at 32-years-old. He threw for a career-high 4,952 yards, completed a career-high 67.1 percent of his passes, and also threw 32 touchdowns to just nine interceptions.

On Friday, the Steelers also announced they agreed on a contract with free agent running back DeAngelo Williams. Williams had spent the previous nine seasons of his career with the Carolina Panthers.
