Serena Williams Out at Australian Open
Published at(MELBOURNE, Australia) — Serena Williams lost her fourth round match-up in the Australian Open to Ekaterina Makarova 6-2, 6-3.
The loss broke Williams’ 17-match winning streak at the tournament.
Two weeks ago, Williams sprained her left ankle at a warmup tournament in Brisbane, but Williams didn’t blame that for the loss.
“I feel like she played really well, and she deserved to win today,” Williams said. “I look forward to our next match. I feel like I could definitely play so much better and that’s good. If I feel like I couldn’t play better, than that would be a problem.”
Serena had 37 unforced errors in the loss.
