Pocatello Police Remind Residents of Door to Door Sales License Requirements

  Published at  | Updated at

The following is a news release from the Pocatello Police Department.

POCATELLO — The warmer weather is upon us and Pocatello citizens can expect door-to-door solicitors in the area. The City of Pocatello and the Pocatello Police Department would like to advise citizens that door-to-door solicitors are required to obtain a solicitor license in order to conduct door-to-door sales.

Solicitors must pass a criminal history check and meet other City regulations in order to obtain a City license. According to Chapter 5.52 of the Pocatello City Code, all solicitors and peddlers must meet all applicable local, state (including Southeast district health regulations and requirements), and federal statutes and regulations and licensing requirements to be issued and to maintain a city issued license.

After the door-to-door applicant has been approved, an identification card is issued to each licensee. The license will include the licensee’s name, address, business name, license number and a photograph of the licensee. A licensee’s identification card must be exhibited in a conspicuous place and must be presented upon the request of any prospective customer or city employee.

There are numerous exemptions from the City License requirement, including, fundraising sales for charitable purposes by locally recognized groups. The entire list of exemptions and the code can be viewed on the City of Pocatello web site at http://pocatello.us/241/City-Code. Search for Chapter 5.25 Solicitors and Peddlers Licensing.

Anyone who believes a solicitor is operating without a City license, should call the Pocatello Police Department’s non-emergency number of 234-6100. Questions on solicitor licenses should be directed to City Licensing at 234-6285, during regular business hours.
