East Idaho Eats: Dixie’s Diner will take you back in time
Published at | Updated atIDAHO FALLS – With jukeboxes on each table and a large variety of fresh food — Dixie’s Diner aims to please both the young and the old.
“People love this kind of stuff,” owner Tom Hersh said.
Dixie’s Diner on Channing Way is about 10 years old and fairly new to the community, but its old school memorabilia and red and white 50s themed interior will take customers back in time.
“We have the people that say, ‘oh I grew up in a place like this,’ and then we have people that weren’t even born in the 50s that come in and say this is just so much fun and so cool,” Hersh said.
Hersh has always enjoyed the nostalgia of the 50s and 60s. He said it seemed like a time where life was simpler and people where happier. It’s the feeling he hopes the restaurant brings to his patrons.
“We’re just a real good family-style restaurant,” Hersh said.
Hersh said the menu options at Dixie’s is change every once in a while, but for the most part the food choices remain steady.
“We’re consistent in our food, but we give the kind of service that people really want,” Hersh said.
Hersh said their entire menu including breakfast is available all day long.

“Breakfasts are always consistently good. That’s why I come here, the hash browns are always good,” customer Steve Brown said.
One of their most requested meals at Dixie’s is the Corned Beef Combo. The sandwich consists of fresh hand cut corned beef, coleslaw, Swiss cheese and Thousand Island dressing all stacked on marbled rye bread.
“That’s probably what we sell the most of,” Hersh said.
He said the Reuben is also a popular sandwich similar to the corned beef combo, but instead of coleslaw it has sauerkraut instead.
California natives Karissa Willis and her family said it was their first time at the restaurant and they would definitely come back again.
“It was really good food, plus they load you up. They give you a lot of food,” she said.
Hersh wants anyone that comes to Dixie’s to not only enjoy the food and step back into the 50s, but to feel at home.
“It’s the kind of place that as soon as you walk in you’re going to feel like a regular,” Hersh said.
