Brewers First Baseman Mat Gamel Suffers Torn ACL
Published at(NEW YORK) — Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Mat Gamel was supposed to help pick up the slack on offense after the departure of former Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder. Now, the team must find a replacement for Gamel, as the team has announced he has a torn ACL, keeping him out for an extended period of time and perhaps the rest of the season.
Gamel left Tuesday’s game after he injured his right knee while chasing down a foul ball. After being examined by team doctors back in Milwaukee, Brewers GM Doug Melvin announced that Gamel did indeed suffer a torn ACL.
Gamel was batting .246 with one home run and six RBIs this season.
