BOZEMAN, Montana — A California man who drowned in Hebgen Lake, Montana last week has been identified by authorities.

The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports 67-year-old Jeffrey Barr, of Burbank, California, drowned after he entered the lake in an apparent attempt to retrieve a pontoon boat that had blown away.

Searchers began looking for the man Thursday after receiving a report of a vehicle parked in a day-use area. Investigators found the pontoon boat beached nearby and Barr’s body was discovered Friday about 300 feet from the shore near his campsite.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this article identified Lake Hebgen as being in Yellowstone National Park. It is actually located outside the park.
