Teton Pass closes again after avalanche

TETON COUNTY, Wyoming — An avalanche in the Teton Pass closed part of Wyoming State Highway 22 around noon Wednesday.
It’s not clear when the road will be opened again, according to the Teton Idaho County Sheriff’s Office. The Wyoming Department of Transportation says all lanes of Highway 22 are closed between Jackson and the Idaho state line at milepost 11.
The slide occurred at the bottom of Mt. Glory, a popular backcountry ski area.
The pass has been closed off and on this week due to the winter storm, but the Teton Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the pass was open at the time of the naturally triggered avalanche. Deputies say no one was trapped and there were no injuries as a result.
According to the Teton Bridger Avalanche Center, there was also an avalanche on Tuesday that covered both sides of the roadway in the same area as Wednesday’s slide. The avalanche danger is considered high and an avalanche warning remains in effect. They say conditions are very dangerous.
The avalanche center says large avalanches could release naturally and possibly impact roadways. They are advising travelers to not travel in avalanche terrain.
