Here’s why you may be having trouble registering your boat

IDAHO FALLS — With the weather warming up, many are looking to register their boats for relaxing fun on the water.
A new system put in place by the Idaho Parks and Recreation Department requires boat owners to go through the state Parks and Recreation Department – not the city of Idaho Falls.
Idaho State Parks and Recreation spokesman Craig Quintana tells EastIdahoNews.com the COVID-19 shutdown caused some kinks and prevented the transition from taking place sooner.
“That complicated the whole thing and we apologize for that,” Quintana says. “The new system is largely email-based. We need that email. It will allow them to stay in contact with us and we can send renewal reminders.”

The city of Idaho Falls has received numerous calls about boat registrations during this transition, which they have had to send to the state.
Genene Eddins, a representative at the city office, says there were 15 requests Monday morning alone.
A grace period for boat registration will run until the end of June due to delays in the state’s ability to issue registration stickers. Registrations for 2019 will not be fined for expiration until July.
Residents can register at www.parksandrecreation.idaho.gov.
Instructions on how to get to the registration page are below:
1) Click on “Renewals, Passes, and Registration.”
2) Under the “Boats, OHVs, and Snowmobiles” tab, click on “My Vehicles/Registration Renewals.”
Once you are in the system, log in with your account and update your information. Quintana says you should only create a new account if you are a brand-new customer. Creating duplicate accounts can make the process more difficult.
