Lost River Fire at INL now 50 percent contained

IDAHO FALLS — Firefighters have contained about 50 percent of the Lost River Fire as of Thursday morning.
The fire started on Idaho National Laboratory lands about 10 miles east of Arco, at around 2 a.m., according to a U.S. Bureau of Land Management news release. The fire is located southwest of U.S. Highway 26 and roughly a mile northeast of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Radioactive Waste Management Complex.
INL and BLM firefighters responded to the blaze, which grew to about 1,500 acres before fire lines were completed around the fire.
It’s estimated the fire will be fully contained by Thursday evening.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but INL officials suspect it was caused by lightning.
Most of eastern Idaho is under a red flag warning Thursday due to high wind, low humidity and dry thunderstorms.
