Barkley Throws 6 TD Passes as USC Improves To 2-0
Published at(EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ) — The No. 2 USC Trojans defeated the Syracuse Orange (0-2) 42-29 on Saturday afternoon at MetLife Stadium, behing a career-high six touchdown passes by quarterback Matt Barkley.
The senior completed 23 of 30 passes for 187 yards and six touchdowns for the Trojans (2-0). He also threw an interception.
Wide Receiver Robert Woods had 200 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns.
Syracuse quarterback Ryan Nassib finished with 327 yards passing to go along with two touchdown passes and one touchdown run.
The Trojans led 14-3 at halftime. Things got a bit scary at MetLife Stadium when there was a delay to start the third quarter due to a passing thunderstorm.
After the delay, Nassib led the Orange (0-2) to consecutive touchdown drives to make it 21-16 USC, entering the fourth quarter.
The Syracuse defense did not have an answer for Barkley, who had three scores of his own in the final quarter.
