Charles Woodson Thinks He’s Unsigned Because of Age
Published at(NEW YORK) — Former Green Bay Packers defensive back Charles Woodson was cut by the Green Bay Packers nearly two months ago, and he thinks he has yet to sign a new deal with a team because of his age.
The 36-year-old Woodson missed nine games last season, but had only missed three games over the course of the previous six seasons. Despite his productivity, Woodson thinks the reason why he’s still a free agent is because of his age.
“I’m 36, so of course I’m considered ancient in the game right now, and teams are looking for younger players and trying to make their rosters younger,” Woodson said on the NFL Network. “If you’re an older guy, they kind of push you to the side, and they’ll maybe look at you much later on down the road, when I guess they figure they can get you much cheaper.”
During the course of his 16-year career, Woodson has been one of the best defensive backs in the NFL. His only free-agent visit since being released by the Packers was the San Francisco 49ers, and he left without a contract.
Woodson’s 55 career regular season interceptions is tied for 19th all-time in NFL history.
