Matt Moore Silences the Red Sox, Rays Win Again
Published at(BOSTON) — Matt Moore pitched his first complete game shutout of his career, leading the Tampa Bay Rays past the Boston Red Sox, 3-0, Monday night.
Moore needed 109 pitches to earn his major-league-leading 14th win of the season. He finished the game allowing two hits and one walk while striking out four.
“I think that’s the most efficient I’ve been,” Moore said. “I think that’s probably the best game I’ve ever thrown (because) the Red Sox are playing well, and we were on the road.”
The Rays have now won 18 of their last 20 games and pull within a half-game of the Red Sox for first place in the AL East.
Game 2 of the four-game series is Tuesday night in Boston. Tampa’s Roberto Hernandez (5-10) will oppose Boston’s Jon Lester (8-6).
