RIGBY – A man escaped uninjured from a vehicle fire near Roberts Thursday morning.
It happened at 9 a.m. on Interstate 15, according to a news release from Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. An unnamed 79-year-old man from Hamer was towing a 5th wheel camp trailer with his 2016 GMC Sierra pickup.
He reportedly stopped to adjust a strap in the back of the pickup and saw smoke coming from under the hood.
“He attempted to open the hood, but was unable to get it open before seeing flames,” the news release says.
Roberts Fire Department arrived and quickly put it out. Though the fire was extinguished, the sheriff’s office reports there was external damage to the front of the trailer. The pickup is a total loss.
The total cost in damage is unclear.
