Kenneth Cole Tweet Draws Controversy Over Syria Reference
Published at | Updated at(NEW YORK) — Angry Twitter users took to the social network to express outrage over Kenneth Cole’s latest tweet referencing Syria.
The fashion designer used a comment made by Secretary of State John Kerry in which he says, “…there will not be American boots on the ground with respect to the civil war.”
“Boots on the ground” or not, let’s not forget about sandals, pumps and loafers. #Footwear

One Twitter user responded, “no more ken Coles for me,” while another said, “tacky & tasteless. I’ll be throwing my KC clothes in garbage where it belongs #Disgraceful #Disrespectful #Shameful #pathetic.“
It’s not the first time the brand’s social media presence has raised a few eyebrows. In 2011, Cole used the conflict in Egypt to promote his spring line on Twitter saying, “Millions are in uproar in #Cairo. Rumor is they heard our new spring collection is now available online at http://bit.ly/KCairo -KC.”
The tweet was later deleted, and Cole apologized via Facebook and Twitter.
The brand faced similar backlash in April for a tweet referencing gun control.
