Every week I’m interviewing fascinating people in our community, nation and around the world.

Mack Wilberg has served as music director of The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square since 2008, overseeing all musical and creative elements for the Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square. His leadership spans rehearsals, concerts, tours, recordings, and the weekly broadcast of “Music & the Spoken Word.”

A renowned composer, arranger, guest conductor, and clinician, Mack’s work is performed across the United States and internationally. His compositions and arrangements are widely recorded and embraced by choral ensembles around the world.

I spoke with Mack two years ago and was fortunate enough to meet up with him before the hugely popular Tabernacle Choir Christmas concert a few weeks ago. Here’s what I asked him:

  • It has been a big year for the Tabernacle Choir. Can you tell me about the milestones you’ve enjoyed this year?
  • The Christmas concert will be shown on PBS next year. What is special about it?
  • You have traveled a lot with the choir. Do you have a favorite place you’ve visited?
  • Do you listen to music when you’re not working and if so, what type of music?
  • Who is your dream artist to perform with?
  • Does your family have any Christmas traditions and if so, what are they?
  • Can you share a piece of musical advice with me?
