Timberwolves Trade Derrick Williams to Kings
Published at(MINNEAPOLIS) — On Tuesday, the Minnesota Timberwolves traded the No. 2 pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, Derrick Williams, to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for forward Luc Mbah a Moute.
“Luc is known as one of the premier defensive players in the league with an ability to guard multiple positions,” Timberwolves president Flip Saunders said in a statement. “He adds a lot of energy, grit and a high basketball IQ to our team. We thank Derrick for his contributions to our organization and wish him well in Sacramento.”
The 22-year-old Williams had fallen out of favor with head coach Rick Adelman. Williams was a healthy scratch for four of the Timberwolves’ 16 games this season.
When Williams did play, he didn’t play much: In 11 games, Williams averaged 14.7 minutes, 4.9 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.
Luc Mbah a Moute, who was a teammate of Timberwolves forward Kevin Love at UCLA, is averaging 21.8 minutes, 4.4 points, three rebounds, 1.7 assists and one steal per game this season.
