Burn ban issued for Jefferson County due to extremely dry conditions

RIGBY — A burn ban has been issued for Jefferson County as officials try to minimize the risk of fires during high heat and dry conditions.
According to a news release from the Central Fire District, Jefferson County will be under a burn ban until Sept. 30.
All outdoor burning is prohibited including campfires, explosives, model rockets, tracer bullets, exploding targets, welding or other open flames, trash fires, brush piles and burning debris.
Agricultural burning must be approved by the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality, according to the release.

Small camp fires in the fire ring, emergency roadside flares, and barbecues are permitted.
“We ask all residents to help keep our community safe by complying with this ban and reporting any unauthorized burning to local authorities,” says Fire Chief Nic White in the release. “Thank you for helping us protect Jefferson County during this period of heightened fire risk.”
