Butte County issues burn ban due to high temperatures and dry weather

ARCO — Butte County is the latest of a growing number of eastern Idaho counties that are now under a burn ban due to dry weather and high temperatures.
According to a news release from the Butte County Board of Commissioners, a resolution was approved Monday placing temporary fire restrictions throughout unincorporated Butte County beginning Saturday, July 18, through September 30.
Fremont, Bonneville and Jefferson counties are also currently under burn bans.

The fire restrictions apply to private, agricultural, and commercial land outside the city limits of Arco, Moore, and Butte City and do not include federal or state land within the county.
“The Commissioners recognize recent high temperatures and low humidity have created a high risk of range fires throughout our communities,” says the release.
Restrictions include but are not limited to “campfires, warming fires, bonfires, charcoal grill fires, fused explosives, out-of-season ground fireworks (i.e. “firecrackers” or “roman candles”, as defined by Idaho Code), any non-permitted special or aerial fireworks as defined by Idaho Code, explosive or exploding gun range targets, firing of model rockets; exposure to flame of any flammable, inflammable, combustible, or explosive material or container (i.e. propane tanks, batteries, tires, or homemade explosives), or controlled burns of trash and debris on open ground or within a metal vessel.”
Contained fires under 3 feet in height that are built within an approved pit at an improved location with 15 feet of cleared space are allowed under this restriction.
“The Board of Commissioners and local Fire Chiefs ask all residents and visitors to keep safety and fire-prevention practices in mind throughout summer and fall in order to avoid local disasters,” says the release.
