(5) Michigan State Survives Minnesota in OT
Published at(EAST LANSING, Mich.) — Keith Appling scored 24 points, including eight in overtime, as No. 5 Michigan State defeats Minnesota 87-75 Saturday.
Down 10 with under sixteen minutes to play, the Spartans went on a 15-0 run before Minnesota battled back. Golden Gophers guard Deandre Mathieu’s layup with 1.7 seconds remaining sent the game into overtime. But the Spartans outscored Minnesota 16-4 in overtime to improve their record to 15-1.
“Anytime you go on the road in a great environment and you step up for 40 minutes and you don’t win the game, it is a bit of a missed opportunity,” Minnesota head coach Richard Pitino said. “But there will be plenty more.”
Andre Hollins scored 24 points for Minnesota (13-4) in the loss.
Michigan State is off to its best 16-game start under head coach Tom Izzo since the 2000-01 season.
