Terry Lyn Rackham

Terry Lyn Rackham, 57, passed away on September 6, 2026.

Terry was born on August 18, 1969, to Albert Elwood Rackham and Barbara Carroll Rackham. Growing up alongside three older brothers and a baby sister, Terry lived a childhood steeped in the Western way of life. When he wasn’t playing baseball or hiding in the clothing racks of his grandparents’ western store, he was in the saddle—often racing his favorite buckskin, Dusty, from telephone pole to telephone pole. Childhood meant pack trips, hunting, fishing, and trail rides through Fall Creek, Heise, and Palisades, along with lively wagon train weekends where the kids were tucked safely into horse trailers to sleep while the adults raced through camp.

That grit carried Terry into bull riding through high school and into the PRCA, where he earned good rides and lifelong friends. A hard wreck at the Warbonnet in 1996 convinced him to hang up his spurs, right around the time he met the love of his life, Amy Janell VanLeuven. They married on May 10, 1997, and Terry immediately embraced fatherhood, raising his two daughters, Ashley and Hunter Edwards.

Terry was all-in for his kids. He was a constant fixture at every ballgame, rodeo, pageant, horse show, and parent-teacher conference. If fatherhood required wearing prom dresses, high heels, full makeup, and curled hair for an afternoon of dress-up, Terry wore it with pride. He loved starting colts each spring, patiently training them for the kids, and cheering them on in every arena of life.

Though he stepped away from riding bulls, the sport never left his blood. Terry poured his heart back into the community, serving on the Jefferson County Fair and Rodeo Board, working the Jefferson Stampede and Rigby Stampede, and pulling gates and bull ropes at Rigby High School to support the next generation of riders.

Terry spent most of his career working hard in the trades—roofing, siding, and installing soffit and fascia. In recent years, he transitioned into retirement by keeping busy with the City of Rigby, the City of Rexburg, and driving truck for KV Inc. of Idaho Falls.

Terry and Amy began their married life in Labelle before building their dream home in Menan in 2000. For over two decades, Terry tackled an endless list of yard and house projects—until he finally bought Amy a tractor after officially retiring as her “human backhoe.” Together, they spent 26 years establishing their brand, building a beautiful homestead, and creating a lifetime of memories rooted in hard work, laughter, and devotion to family.

Terry is survived by his loving wife, Amy Rackham of Menan, ID; his children, Ashley Rackham of Rigby, ID, Hunter (Hayden) Hill of Driggs, ID, Kelly Rackham of Salt Lake City, UT, and Aaliyah, AyshaLyn, and Acaziiah Rackham; his granddaughters, Ahmeekha and Haisley Dawn; his father, Albert Elwood Rackham of Rigby, ID, parent-in-laws, Jerry and Krystal Van Leuven of Roberts, ID; and his siblings, Brent (Audrey) Rackham of Rigby, ID, David Rackham of Rigby, ID, Danny (Ellie) Rackham of Grant, ID, and Shanna (Travis) Burgess of Rigby, ID.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara “Carol” Rackham, his grandson, History Johnson, his best friend, Kelly Bales, and his grandparents.

The funeral will be Tuesday, Sept 15, 2026, held at the Menan 1st and 2nd Ward church building at 3547 East Menan Lorenzo Highway at 11:00 am. We’ll receive family and friends for a visitation from 6:00 – 7:30 pm on Monday night, September 14, 2026, and from 9:00 – 10:45 on Tuesday, Sept 15, 2026, at the Menan Church.

Interment will be at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery, 3810 Menan Lorenzo Hwy.
