Flu Outbreak Spreads to More States
Published at(NEW YORK) — Flu outbreaks are spreading to more states across the country.
The flu is now widespread in 40 states, compared with 35 last week. And according to ABC’s Chief Health and Medical Editor Dr. Richard Besser, 10 children died from the flu within the past week.
However, Dr. Besser says the number of states with a lot of flu activity has dropped significantly.
“A week ago, it was 20, now it’s down to 14, which is a good thing,” Besser said.
He also noted that fewer people are being hospitalized to be treated for the flu compared to last year.
With about six weeks or longer to go in this year’s flu season it is still not too late to get vaccinated. Besser recommends visiting flushot.healthmap.dot.org for more information.
