“Our office extends our deepest sympathies to Eben’s family, friends, and loved ones. We are keeping them in our thoughts during this difficult time,” says Danner in a news release.

According to the Idaho State Police, Shrum was traveling with another man in a 2006 Toyota Sienna on US Highway 30 shortly before 7 p.m. The van was in the westbound lane when Idaho State Police say Shrum overcorrected after leaving the road, causing the vehicle to overturn.

Neither of the men was wearing a seatbelt, according to ISP. Shrum died at the scene, and the other man did not need to go to the hospital.

A portion of the highway was closed for nearly six hours while ISP investigated. They were assisted by the Bannock County Sheriff’s Office, Caribou County Sheriff’s Office, Bannock County Coroner and Bannock County Ambulance District.

The incident remains under investigation by Idaho State Police.
