Jimenez Signs with Orioles
Published at(NEW YORK) — The Baltimore Orioles have agreed to terms on a contract with pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez, sources confirmed to ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick on Monday night. The four year deal is worth around $48 million, according to those with knowledge of the agreement.
Jimenez was 13-9 last season in 32 starts with a 3.30 ERA for the Cleveland Indians. The right-hander turned down a $14.1 million qualifying offer from the Indians, meaning that Baltimore will have to forfeit their first-round pick (17th overall) to be able to complete the deal.
Entering his ninth year, Jimenez is 82-75 in his previous eight seasons with a 3.92 ERA. Jimenez gained notoriety in 2010 with the Colorado Rockies going 19-8 and posting a 2.88 ERA. The righty first broke into the majors with Colorado in 2006.
