Safeway Supermarket Chain to Be Sold for $9 Billion
Published at | Updated at(SAN FRANCISCO) — The grocery store chain Safeway will be sold for more than $9 billion to the company that owns rival chain Albertson’s, ABC News affiliate KGO reports.
Safeway is the country’s second-largest grocery chain.
The sale comes as the chain has been facing growing competition from big-box retailers and pharmacies.
