Attorney: Trash Letters Supporting Embattled Teacher

(BLACKFOOT, ID) – An attorney for the Snake River School District is advising trustees to throw away hundreds of letters and e-mails regarding an embattled high school science teacher. Elaine Asmus, who has taught biology in the district for 26 years, is accused of harassing a new co-worker. As a result, the high school has opted not to renew her contract for another year. Board members have declined to speak publicly about the issue, citing the need for neutrality. Asmus, who is appealing the decision at a hearing next month, won the Idaho VFW’s Teacher of the Year Award in 2009, among other accolades.
