The Spokane Police Deparment says that a man entered the Rockwood Cancer Treatment Center inside Deaconness Medical center and shot a woman who was later determined to be his wife. He then proceeded to turn the gun on himself.

Officers responded to the scene shortly after 9:30 a.m. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the man was taken to the emergency room for treatment. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Spokane Police Chief Frank Straub called the incident “a family and community tragedy.” The children of the victim and suspect are safe and in the care of relatives, police say.
