JoAnne Brooks

December 30th, 1946 - June 8th, 2023

JoAnne Brooks, 76, of Idaho Falls, passed away June 8, 2023, at Tambree Meadows Assisted Living Center. She was under the care of her loving family and Aspen Home Health & Hospice.

JoAnne was born December 30, 1946, in Payson, Utah, to Hyrum McClain Nelson and Estella Smith Nelson. She grew up and attended schools in Ammon and Idaho Falls.

On July 27, 1963, she married Richard Allen “Dick” Brooks in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on July 28, 1970. JoAnne and Dick made their home in Idaho Falls. In the early years, she always looked for opportunities to supplement their income so that she could stay at home and raise her children. The only thing JoAnne wanted when she was young was to be a mom.

Dick loved classic cars and JoAnne supported him in everything he did from buying and selling cars to organizing car shows. They started Brooks Trophies and ran a successful business for 30 years. JoAnne made sure her husband, kids, and grandkids knew she was their #1 fan in their many school and sporting activities. Dick and JoAnne celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary a few months before his passing in 2013.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed many callings, but her favorite was working with the Young Women of the 25th Ward with whom she made many special memories.

JoAnne is survived by her son, Todd (Deridee) Brooks of Idaho Falls; son, Tory (Natalie) Brooks of Idaho Falls; son, Tyler (Amy) Brooks of Ammon, ID; daughter, Tina (Redge) Sorenson of Iona, ID; brother-in-law, Lee Day; sisters-in-law, Eda Nelson and Analee Nelson; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren (with twins on the way).

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick; grandson, Spencer Bryson Brooks; brothers, Dean and Dale Nelson; and sister, Peggy Day.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Avenue. The family will visit with friends from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
