Lora Lee Beck Obituary

After a courageous battle with cancer, Lori Beck passed away peacefully on January 15 at the age of 68. She was the youngest of 8 children born to Orlando and Leora Morris. When she graduated in 1971, she chose to stay and take care of her parents as they got older. Lori lived her entire life in Arco Idaho. In 1982 she was elected as the Butte County Treasurer and served for 39 years until her death. According to the Idaho Association of Counties (IAC) she was the longest serving county treasurer in Idaho. Lori served as president of both the Idaho Association of County Treasurers, IAC and served on the National Association of County Officers for Idaho. She was a walking historian of all property in Butte County. She could often tell you from memory who the property owners were going backwards. Lori loved to read, dance, play baseball, and bowl in her younger years. She was an excellent bowler and participated in several championship tournaments. She doted on her grandkids and was known by their friends as their grandma. She actively followed Butte County Pirate sports on the news each week, and attended all home football, volleyball and basketball games until COVID hit and her health deteriorated.

In November 1976, Lori married Wilbert Beck and together they soon built and operated the Hiland Nursery just north of Arco. They had a lot of fun attending auctions, going snow machining, and attending the annual Treasurers and IAC conventions which included rafting down the Salmon River, train rides around Cascade and boating tours of Lake Coeur D ‘Alene to name a few. The IAC conventions always occurred around her birthday making them extra fun. They traveled to Texas, Washington D.C., New York and Hawaii. Will and Lori were an iconic pair who doted on their grandkids, and were enjoyed by all.

In March of 2010, Lori’s heart broke at the loss of Will and it never healed. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother to her step children and others. She had a heart for needy children and those who needed a chance to earn money or rebuild their lives. Lori is survived by her step-children Robert Beck, Debby (Ernie) Tate, and Marsha (Ron) Clark, three grandchildren, one great grandchild, sister Judy (Ron) Watson, and brother Glen (Sue) Morris. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Jeannette Metheny, and brothers Kenneth, Ron, Gordon and Ray Morris. The family wishes to extend gratitude and thanks to the ladies of the Butte County Courthouse and all others who assisted Lori during the past several years. She is now at peace with our Lord, and her life love Will.
