Obituary
Lynda Maxene Klein
March 30th, 1945 - October 2nd, 2026
Lynda Maxene Higginson Klein, 81, longtime Idaho Falls resident, passed away on October 2, 2026. She was under the care of Mission Hospice of Idaho Falls.
Maxene was born to Max M Higginson and Gwendolyn Cordon Higginson in Boise, Idaho on March 30, 1945, the oldest of 5 children. She grew up in Boise, attending schools there and graduating from Boise High School in 1963. She attended Boise Jr. College.
On January 4, 1966, she married Duke Joel Klein in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1971 where Duke started his teaching career. They were blessed with 6 children, 5 boys and 1 girl. Maxene’s focus during her adult life was her family.
Maxene worked at ShopKo and later at Precision Plastics in the office. Retiring in 2007.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings over the years. But the highlight of her church service was the 9 years she and her husband served as ordinance workers in the Idaho Falls temple. She loved the hymns of the restoration and sang in the choir at church for many years.
Duke was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2016. Maxene was a wonderful caretaker and companion to Duke during his treatments. He passed away in 2017. Maxene struggled with her own health challenges in the years following Duke’s death. She survived breast cancer, had her gallbladder removed, a heart value replaced, and received a pacemaker.
Maxene made great efforts and found joy in supporting her grandchildren in various plays, concerts, performances, graduations, weddings and meeting new grandchildren. Until her arthritis made it too painful, she made blankets for new grandchildren.
Maxene is survived by her children Eric (Mary), Karl (Sheryl), Reed, Mark (Camille), Todd (April), and Lisa (Randy); 27 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; as well as her brothers David and Jerry. She is preceded in death by her husband Duke; her brothers RV and Brent; and her parents.
A special thank you to Mission Hospice, especially Sabrina and Heather for the care and love they showed Maxene.
