Obituary
Sue Wheeler
February 13th, 1954 - October 29th, 2026
Sue Wheeler passed away Thursday, October 29, 2026, at her home, with her dear husband by her side.
Sue was born Friday, February 13, 1954, in Ucon, Idaho, to Darrell Farnsworth and Mary Jane Monson. She was the eldest of seven children.
Sue was a graduate of Bonneville High School, where she met and dated her eventual husband, Doug. She was renowned for crafting her own stylish dresses and outfits, and always brought a wonderful sense of style with her.
Sue and Doug honeymooned at Disneyland in 1975, and adoration for that experience lasted the rest of their lives. They were blessed to return there often with their children and grandchildren. More than one inside joke for the family stemmed from those trips, movies, music, and memories.
Sue studied interior decorating at Ricks College from 1973–1974, a degree richly suited to her talents and passions. That learning remained present throughout her life, as her home was always one of careful design, beautiful colors, and a country aesthetic that warmed the hearts of those who visited her.
Sue was a deeply loving mother and wife. Her home was always open and welcoming to family friends, her children’s colleagues, and eventually to her many loving grandchildren. She maintained immaculate gardens and flower beds wherever she lived, from Anaheim to Ammon. Her adoration of succulents became a legendary trait among all her children and grandchildren in the final years of her life. She had a biting wit, and would not hesitate to call out someone who needed a well delivered tease.
Sue was a gifted artist. She loved learning about and creating art in any medium, from oil paints and watercolors to charcoal sketches, or even play dough creations with her grandchildren. Many of her paintings and works of art are still cherished by her family today.
Much of Sue’s life was influenced by her faith. A dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she participated throughout her life in church service. Four decades after they were married, she and Doug accepted a call to serve together as a couple in the Taiwan mission, where Doug had served as a youth. Sue took her dedication to homemaking, cleanliness, and a love of youth across the globe as yet another sacrifice made for her faith.
Sue loved the quiet country atmosphere. She would give anything for friends and loved ones. She has been on many adventures with her globetrotting spouse, but she was always happiest in her gardens surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren who mourn her absence now.
Sue is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Douglas Richard Wheeler; children, Joshua (Laramie) Wheeler, Natalie (Victor) Monreal, Nicole (Ryan) Wood, Emily (Brad) Stewart, and Jordan (Becca) Wheeler; 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Darrell Farnsworth and Mary Jane Monson; and grandson, Johannes “Han” Wheeler.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2026, at the Rimrock Ward, 5366 1st Street. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
