(NEW YORK) — Members of New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez’ camp leaked the names of Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun and Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli in the Biogenesis scandal to the media, according to a report by 60 Minutes.
The news comes after Rodriguez appealed his 211-game suspension for violating the MLB’s Joint Drug Agreement and has continued to play on the field.
“These allegations are untrue and are another attempt to harm Alex, this time by driving a wedge between him and other players in the league,” Rodriguez’s lead attorney, David Cornwell said in a statement to 60 Minutes on Friday. “While Alex focuses on baseball and repeatedly states that he is going to respect the appeal process, the drumbeat of false allegations continues. These improper and viciously false leaks will not alter the fact that MLB exceeded its authority under the JDA (Joint Drug Agreement) and the 211 game (suspension) will not stand.”
Braun, Cervelli, and 11 other players have accepted their suspensions for violating the MLB’s Joint Drug Agreement.
Rodriguez’ appeal will be heard in the next few weeks.
