The attacks happened in the country’s capital of Sana’a, authorities said. A total of 120 people were killed and 150 were injured, according to the Ministry of Information in Yemen.

Two high-ranking figures were among those killed: a major Shia religious leader and the imam of one of the mosques, according to a Yemeni official.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the attacks, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, which tracks international terrorists and the global jihadist network.

The Yemen Information Ministry says that two suicide bombers detonated their belts inside the al Hashosh mosque near the Sana’a airport. Two more bombers detonated inside the Bader mosque less than one minute later.

The Information Ministry adds that a fifth suicide bomber was arrested while entering a mosque in Sada province, a Houthi stronghold. He was taken to a police station, where he detonated his vest.

The mosques targeted are used mainly by supporters of the Zaidi Shia-led Houthi rebel movement which controls the capital, the BBC reports.
