The Cubs acquired Russell from the Oakland A’s last season before the trade deadline in exchange for pitchers Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel.

According to MLB.com, Russell is the fifth-best prospect in baseball.  Bryant is second.

The Cubs infield is now manned by four players under 25, with a lot of promise. Bryant and Russell will join shortstop Starlin Castro and first baseman Anthony Rizzo to form the foundation of what Chicago hopes will end a 106-season World Series drought.

To make room on the roster, Arismendy Alcantara will be optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Russell is expected to make his debut Tuesday night in Pittsburgh against the Pirates.
