Scotty McCreery returns to Rexburg, promises exciting show

REXBURG — Country singer Scotty McCreery will return to Rexburg Saturday, Oct. 15 to perform in the Hart Auditorium at Brigham Young University-Idaho.

McCreery burst onto the national music scene in 2011 at age 17, quickly establishing himself as one of country music’s hottest new stars. Now in his early 20s, the talented singer/songwriter has album sales approaching 3 million.

“I’m excited to come back to Idaho,” McCreery tells EastIdahoNews.com. “This is going to be a high energy show that will take people on a ride through my journey and my career. It’ll be a really fun show.”

McCreery has toured with Brad Paisley and Rascal Flatts. He was named “Best American Idol” by the readers of The Los Angeles Times and “Country Music’s Sexiest Man” by the readers of NASH Country Weekly Magazine.

He has more than three million followers on Facebook and Twitter and his videos have received more than 150 million YouTube views.

Despite his fame, McCreery says he tries to remain humble and grounded.

“I don’t think humans are meant to be adored and worshipped like this,” McCreery says. “When you’ve got people screaming your name and crying just because they touch your hand, that can make you get a big head. Lucky for me, I’ve got friends and family back home who could care less. They tell me to take the trash out and do stuff like that. That helps me stay level-headed.”

When he’s not on the road, McCreery says you’ll likely find him on the golf course, watching a football game or hanging out with his friends.

In fact, he’s celebrating his 23rd birthday next week in a big way.

“Me and my guys from back home are going to take my bus down to Florida and see a football game,” McCreery says. “Then we have this thing we call the State Cup. There’s eight guys and we play a tournament with each other – four versus four. It’s a great time and I’m looking forward to it.”

Following his birthday celebration, McCreery will visit Rexburg and perform at BYU-Idaho. Tickets can be purchased online at www.byui.edu/tickets or from the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office located in the University Store.

Remaining bleacher seats are $26 for the general public and $14 for BYU-Idaho students. A preshow dinner in the Manwaring Center Grand Ballroom at 6 p.m. is $16 extra.

“We’re looking forward to getting back up there,” McCreery says. “Rexburg was one of our favorite shows we did. Hopefully everybody can come see us and have a good time.”
