Why Katie Holmes Still Feels Like She’s 20

Photo by Jamie McCarthy/WireImage(NEW YORK) — In 16 years, Katie Holmes has starred on a hit TV show, become a movie star, been married, had a child and gotten divorced. Yet she still feels like she’s 20.

“I’m not so different than I was at 20,” the 36-year-old actress says in the February issue of Red. “I still buy too many jeans…I don’t stay stuck on anything too long. I mean, like, any emotion.”

That includes worrying about how the media portrays her.

“I think that it’s a very interesting time for artists right now because of social media and camera phones,” she told the British magazine. “I don’t think you ever know how you’ll be portrayed. Any story can attach itself to your image. I don’t pay much attention because I’d spend the whole time worrying. I just don’t go out much to avoid it.”

It helps that Holmes, who is mother to eight-year-old Suri with her ex, Tom Cruise, is surrounded by a support network of women.

“Women are complicated, in a beautiful way, and they have lots of different roles. I’m inspired by the community of women it takes to help one woman succeed,” she told Red. “It’s important to be supportive and have people you can call at 3 a.m.”

And, who does she call at 3 o’clock in the morning?

“I have a group of friends I call, and my sisters,” Holmes said of her three sisters, whom she counts as her best friends. “If I’m thinking about my sister, she will end up calling me, it’s weird. Telepathic.”
