Laird, 35, spent the last two seasons serving as the Atlanta Braves backup catcher, hitting .238 in 273 plate appearances.

Laird has played 12 big league seasons: six with the Texas Rangers, three with the Detroit Tigers, two with the Braves, and one with the St. Louis Cardinals. During that time, he hit .244 with 38 home runs and 238 RBIs.

Tuffy Gosewisch and Oscar Hernandez are the only catchers on Arizona’s 40-man roster.
