Jordan Conducts Airstrikes Against ISIS Targets in Syria
Published at(AMMAN, Jordan) — Jordanian fighter jets conducted airstrikes on ISIS strongholds in Syria Thursday in response to the execution of Jordanian pilot Lt. Muath al-Kasasbeh, who was being held hostage by the militant group.
As Jordan’s King Abdullah was offering his condolences to al-Kasasbeh’s father, he told him that Jordanian warplanes were hitting the city of Raqqa. The jets then flew low over the family’s mourning tent and Jordan’s capital.
According to a U.S. official, as many as 20 Jordanian aircraft were involved in the strikes. U.S. aircraft were also involved but in a supportive role.
All aircraft managed to exit the areas safely.
