According to the IRS, the website has been visited more than 100 million times already this year — up from 85 million at the same time last year. The IRS’ website offers tools and help that allow taxpayers to check on the status of their tax refunds, access transcripts of their returns and answers to tax law questions, among other things. Ninety-one percent of visits are reportedly to use the IRS’ “Where’s My Refund” tool.

The IRS also adds that it has issued 19.7 million tax refunds worth over $66 billion. They have received 27.5 million tax returns, slightly higher than at the same time last year.

What has been helpful, according to the IRS, is the number of Americans who filed their returns online. According to the IRS, 96 percent of the returns they’ve received were e-filed. IRS spokesman Eric Smith told ABC News that e-filers could see their refunds much sooner than paper filers this year.
