Pope Francis to Visit DC, Address Joint Meeting of Congress
Published at(WASHINGTON) — The Vatican has accepted House Speaker John Boehner’s invitation for Pope Francis to visit the Capitol, the Ohio Republican announced on Thursday.
“On September 24th, his holiness Pope Francis will visit us here at the United States Capitol,” Boehner said.
Boehner said Francis will be the first pope in history to address a joint meeting of Congress.
“We’re humbled that the holy father has accepted our invitation and certainly look forward to receiving his message on behalf of the American people,” he added.
