According to the statement, Elder Richard G. Scott, 86, is resting at home while recovering from a recent hospital stay for internal bleeding. An ulcer was found in his stomach and the bleeding was controlled without major surgery.

The statement goes on to say that Elder Scott is experiencing fading memory due to age and he’s unable to participate in Quorum of the Twelve meetings.  Doctors consider his condition as stable.

Meanwhile, Elder L. Tom Perry resumed his responsibilities this week and attended both scheduled meetings of the Quorum of the Twelve. He remains under medical care for thyroid cancer.

Elder Scott was hospitalized last month due to gastrointestinal bleeding.  He has served in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles since October 1, 1988.

Elder Perry, who is 92, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in April.  He is the second-most senior member of the Quorum of the Twelve.
