Medical condition causes death, rollover accident at Thornton interchange

REXBURG — An unspecified medical condition likely caused a Plano man to roll his car at the Thornton interchange near Rexburg early Friday, Dec. 18.

Authorities said the 44-year-old man, who has not been identified, later died at Madison Memorial Hospital.

Madison County Sheriff Cpt. Cameron Stanford told EastIdahoNews.com the man was driving home from work in Idaho Falls on U.S. Highway 20. He pulled off the road into a parking lot at the Thornton interchange because he was not feeling well.

At some point the man drove his vehicle, a black Kia SUV, forward partially onto a machinery ramp in the parking lot. The ramp caused the car to flip on its side, Stanford said.

A passerby called authorities. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office and emergency responders arrived and had to cut the man out of the vehicle.

He was given CPR and taken by ground ambulance to Madison Memorial Hospital where he died.

Authorities say it is unclear what caused the man’s death.
