Missing Caldwell children found safe in Colorado

IDAHO FALLS — Three children missing out of Caldwell have been found safe near Vail, Colorado, the Caldwell Police Department announced Saturday.

The missing children — 10-year-old Lewis “Louie” Dunn, 9-year-old Kaylee Dunn and 6-year-old Kaydn Simon — were found less than a week after a statewide Amber Alert was issued for them Monday.

Police had been looking for the children for nearly two weeks before the alert was issued.

The children were found with their adopted mother Sarah Joy VanOcker-Dunn and 37-year-old Jason “Travis” Simon, a suspected child molester. Both individuals are now in police custody.

The Associated Press reports “Lewis Dunn, Kaylee Dunn and Kaydn Simon have been placed in temporary custody of the Colorado Department of Human Services until their legal guardians can pick them up.”

Police told KTVB that all three children are safe with no apparent physical injuries.

According to the AP, Caldwell police believed the adults left Idaho with the children after they realized detectives were looking for Simon in connection with a child pornography investigation.

Simon is charged with sexual abuse of a child, and VanOcker-Dunn is being sought on a charge of custodial interference.

Law enforcement will now travel to Colorado to further the investigation.
