ST. ANTHONY — A local university student is lucky to be alive after he was rescued from the Fall River on Saturday.

The man, who has not been identified, is a Brigham Young University-Idaho student from Nigeria.

Fremont County Sheriff Len Humphries said the man was swimming in the Fall River near Twin Bridges in Fremont County when he began to struggle in the water.

Passers-by noticed the man and were able to pull him out of the water.

“They were able to pull him out, (and) there was a young lady who did CPR on him,” Humphries said.

The 21-year-old woman, whose name has also not been released, managed to resuscitate the student.

The man was taken by ambulance to Madison Memorial Hospital.

The Twin Bridge are a popular destination for swimmers and bridge jumpers; however, the waters are running very high and fast this year.

“The water is still pretty high. I don’t think anyone should be out there right now,” Humphries said.
