BLACKFOOT — A 14-year-old Blackfoot High School student was arrested by police Wednesday for a gun threat.

Police reports show the school resource officer assigned to Blackfoot High School received a report of a student making threats of a school shooting at about 12:30 p.m.

An investigation was conducted and after considering the matter a criminal threat, officers with the Blackfoot Police Department took the juvenile male into custody. He was charged with misdemeanor threatening violence on school grounds.

The family of the student was notified and has been cooperative with law enforcement. It was determined the student does not have access to firearms, according to a police news release.

There have been a number of school threats in eastern Idaho since the mass shooting at Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on Feb. 14.

Threats of violence have been made in Driggs, Rigby, Challis and Aberdeen. There have also been four threats in Wyoming schools, including one in Star Valley on Monday.
