BLACKFOOT – Chad Barker, choir teacher at Mountain View Middle School, and Scott Peterson, manager of Anytime Fitness in Blackfoot took home the coveted Bingham’s Got Talent trophy and $100 Saturday night at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center.

The duo played a medley from The Greatest Showman, with Barker on the piano and Peterson on the violin.

“It is the most inspirational, uplifting song,” Peterson said. “That is what we love to do, perform uplifting and inspirational music for people.”

The duo became friends on the church basketball court and learned they both enjoy playing the same music.

“Our Tuesday evenings became church basketball followed by making music in the chapel,” Peterson said.

They have played together at Idaho State University graduations, funerals and for various church functions.

“We played the Christmas concert at the BPAC,” Peterson said. “Last year, we made a Christmas album called ‘A Sacred Christmas.’”

Peterson began playing the violin at the age 6 and Barker has been playing music for 35 years. Barker has also been teaching music in the Blackfoot School District for the past 12 years.

“I love uplifting others,” Barker said.

Enoch Young, 10, won for the under 16 category and People’s Choice Award went to Ron Barrett and Duane Maupin of Blackfoot. Other acts included a stand up comedic performance and various piano solos, as well as the talents of many vocalists.

Bingham’s Got Talent is a fundraising event for the Relay for Life team “Angels Among Us.” All proceeds from the event go to the American Cancer Society’s cancer research.
