IDAHO FALLS — Idaho State Police responded to a straw bale spill on U.S. Highway 20 around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

“A guy just had his straps either fail or came apart,” ISP Lt. Chris Weadick told EastIdahoNews.com. “The straw bales tipped over on the shoulder of the road and so they picked them back up.”

The fallen bales were loaded back onto the trailer and Weadick called the Idaho Transportation Department to request a sweeper to clean the remainder of the mess.

“We swept the stuff off the side of the road and left,” Weadick says.

Traffic wasn’t diverted at any point. He says lanes weren’t closed as the spill was on the shoulder of the highway near the end of an on-ramp.

“(Drivers) pushed over a little bit early into the travel lane as they merged onto the highway, but nothing ever got shut down,” Weadick says.

ISP officials remind drivers to ensure their loads are properly secured before they get on the highway.
